An Incomplete Picture
The Chronic Disease Crisis
We stand at a crucial crossroads in public health, confronted with an unprecedented epidemic of chronic diseases, declining fertility, and cognitive struggle. In the United States, more than half the population now lives with at least one chronic illness, profoundly impacting quality of life and accounting for the vast majority of healthcare costs. While conventional medicine has excelled in treating acute conditions and contributed many advancements to society, chronic health problems have proven far more difficult to understand and address. We have more labels for sets of symptoms than ever before, yet often lack explanations of underlying causes. Despite an all-time high in pharmaceutical interventions, chronic illness rates continue to climb. This paradox points to something foundational being missed in our understanding of human biology.
The Role of Biophysics
Medicine has made tremendous advances through biochemistry, examining life at the molecular level. Chemistry, however, is built on physics. As a society, we have not had as deep an understanding of the physics of biology — life examined at the subatomic level. Quantum mechanical processes were previously believed to occur only in extreme or controlled environments, not in the warm, wet conditions of living organisms. The emerging field of quantum biology is shifting this paradigm by demonstrating that quantum phenomena do occur in biology — from birds' navigational magnetoreception and plants' photosynthesis to the electron transport in our own cells. As this understanding develops, it reveals light, darkness, and electromagnetic energy as critical environmental regulators of biological function — and opens new pathways for understanding the root drivers of dysfunction and disease.
The Mitochondrial Factor
Health research has largely concentrated on human nuclear DNA, yet it is the distinct mitochondrial genome that may matter most. Mitochondria are not merely our cellular powerhouses; they are sophisticated environmental sensors, constantly reading light, temperature, and electromagnetic signals and translating them into instructions that coordinate the entire system. Many modern diseases, diverse as their labels are, converge on a common root: metabolic dysfunction stemming from poor mitochondrial health. Our cells can tolerate a degree of mitochondrial failure, but only up to a threshold. Once too large a fraction of a cell's mitochondria fail, the cell tips into dysfunction; once too many cells tip, the tissue does too. Prioritizing the health of the mitochondria inside our cells offers a foundational, first-principles strategy to optimize wellness and address a broad range of modern diseases at their source.
My Guiding Principles
My approach is rooted in a set of core principles that define how I view and support my own health and the health of my clients:
First Principles Thinking: I approach complex health challenges by breaking them down into their most fundamental components. This method helps identify and address root causes rather than rely solely on symptom management.
Biophysics-Based Approach: A first-principles approach necessitates a deeper exploration—looking beyond biochemistry, which examines life at the molecular level, and into the more foundational realm of biophysics, where we study life’s mechanics at the atomic and subatomic scale.
Alignment with Nature: Natural systems are the most resilient and regenerative systems on the planet. Recognizing the wisdom in nature’s design, I focus on restoring connection to its laws, rhythms, and cycles to support and sustain health and vitality.
Decentralization & Sovereignty: Natural systems are decentralized systems (think mycelial networks). I believe everyone has the right to a direct, personal connection to the healing forces of nature without the need for centralized intermediaries or the cultivation of profit-driven dependencies.
Education & Informed Consent: Knowledge is empowerment. My goal is to share information that helps people make informed decisions about their own health and lives. My love for learning fuels this work, and I hope to spark that same curiosity in others.
Epigenetics & Environment: I emphasize the role of epigenetics, recognizing that environmental and lifestyle factors exert greater influence on the expression of health or disease than genetics alone. This understanding reframes the narrative from one of genetic determinism to one of empowerment in shaping how our biology is expressed.
Innate Healing Intelligence: I believe in the body’s inherent ability to heal and sustain health when given the right conditions. My role is to help you design a lifestyle and environment that activate this healing potential.
Bioindividuality: Every person is unique. Recommendations are tailored to individual needs, biology, history, and environment.
Holistic, Systems-Level Analysis: Health is best understood through a systems lens — the body as an interconnected whole rather than a collection of isolated parts. This perspective allows for more comprehensive and effective approaches to physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing.
